Another meh Ange game

Crystal Palace claim first PL win of the season | Crystal Palace 1-0 Tottenham | EPL Highlights

as Spurs lose again.

Spurs’ abysmal away record continued with a shockingly awful display at Crystal Palace that saw neither players nor manager really bother as they fell to a 1-0 defeat.

Ange says he ain’t happy as he doesn’t look anyone in the eye, yet you have to ask why not. Surely if he isn’t happy about games like this then he’d do something about it.

In all honesty there isn’t much point posting about this game, it was such a dullfest of disjointed tedium, I should put as much effort in as they did.

But Ange, well Ange yet again Spurs concede in a manner that’s all too familiar. But you happy to let go on time and time again. Micky van de Ven getting the blame but it’s Romero once again at the heart of defensive failures – obviously dreaming of the Madrid sun, or of being reamed by Barca – played his Dutch partner a suicide ball, from there it takes a cross and the ball is at the feet of a player at the back post who is all on his lonesome, to score.

How often have wee seen that? Fart too often. Nearly every god damn game.

Yeah, you happy clap for attacking football – did we really see much of that? – and just gloss over the fact that shit like this happens week in week out. You can be attacking while still doing something to coach against this type of thing. Coaching? Does Ange or any of the coaches do that?

As the Demis Roussos impassively stood there doing nothing, it didn’t get any better. The previous week he made that half-time change, which worked. Here, nothing.

It took him until after the hour when he decided that with so little being created he’d take off his two creative midfield players and one creative wide player.

You have to feel sorry for Mikey Moore – or Mikey Lewis as Efan Ekoku repeatedly insisted on calling him – as he finally got a start and it’s in this game. Maddison made way early, again. He’s not happy and I can see why. Last week he departed having touched the ball more than any other player. This time he had more touches than all of Spurs’ attacking players. It said everything that all Spurs defenders had more touches than the forward 6. Kulusevski had picked up an earlyish booking, why not do what he did last week but take off the Swede and give Maddison that number 10 freedom, in a 4-2-3-1 formation?

Maddison got into double figures for goals in his last two seasons with Leicester, one of which saw them relegated, he nearly hit double figures both years for assists. Ange is getting nothing out of him. Except the look of disappointment as he trudges off.

Coaching. I mean it looks like the front lot are told to just run around a bit, while the defence is told to pile forward and let Micky cover the Spurs half and hope his pace and tackling ability sees off any danger. Has to be said the one bright spot was Woolwich fans moaning that vdV only got a yellow card for a completely different situation that their guy got a red for.

Losing to Palace, who hadn’t picked up a single Premier League victory up until this point. A victory that doubled their league points.

So that was the game and now the post game fall out. Some interesting stats about Ange…

But you’ll get the “it’s a project”… “it’s a rebuild” apologists. No, it’s a man out of his depth. It’s a man who said yes we’ll take Werner on loan again. It’s a man who starts Werner. It’s a man who brings Werner on. It’s Werner with an Aussie accent looking at the floor, coughing and hacking when he can’t handle some scrutiny.

I mean, they’re 8th in table, 3 points behind former manager Nuno. – whose record wasn’t before being sacked after 10 games wasn’t so far off Ange’s recoord this season, in fact his win percentage is higher. They have a fifty/fifty record, won four lost four. It’s a coin toss season. Five away games, 4 points with one victory. Take the calendar year 2024 and they’ve played 14 away games, won 3, lost 7. Those victories, a bizarre one against Villa where they just didn’t show up, similar thing against Man U – though they’re a far worse team than the current Villa side – and already relegated Sheffield United – by the way Nuno’s Forest have won three away this season.

Nothing to write home about Ange. I can see why you can’t face anyone…
