well maybe not.
WinMX network has been down since Wednesday, along with it’s website the whole shebang seemed to have disappeared after pressure from the RIAA, along with eDonkey who’s New York office had closed down.
But a WinMX group, TheSourceCode, has created a hosts file that allows clients to connect to the WinMX network details of which can be found at P2PZone (in English & Italian).
Slyck.com has listed it’s top 10 alternatives for WinMX.
I haven’t bothered with WinMX for a while now, just never seemed to be working that well for me of late. Suppose I should have removed the link on this site’s software links page when I shifted to Shareaza, which Slyck includes. It’s recently been upgraded and is not a bad bit of no ads/spyware freeware.
Their sites promo blurb –
Shareaza is the most luxurious and sophisticated file sharing system you’ll find. It can harness the power of up to four separate peer-to-peer (P2P) networks, including EDonkey2000, Gnutella, BitTorrent and Shareaza’s native network, Gnutella2 (G2).
Not only that, but Shareaza is completely FREE and won’t show any annoying ads or pop-ups. It won’t install any unwanted third party programs that can wreak havoc with your computer. No spyware, no registration, no “paid version”. Just download and use. Simple. Shareaza
