how to beat the pikeys.
He’s done it on his last four visits to Pikeyville, three previous with Pompey and last night 2-0 with Spurs.
It’s another one of those type of games Spurs slip up in, against a scummy side who don’t offer that much, a team they should beat on paper but lose to on grass. Not exactly a great game or performance but when you start off one place above the drop zone 3 points is more valuable than style, never mind the quality feel the width.
Most of the problems are still there: The link up between the lone front guy and the midfield, Pavlyuchenko was to isolated most the time up front – mainly due to me drafting him into my fantasy team at the last minute, that’ll also be the reason Modric failed to net that simple chance in the opening minute – but also due to the make up of the side. Modric has to be in, he is the most creative player we have, now under the regulations ‘Arry (and previous managers) have had to work under Levy it means only he can only play one up front because Jenas has to play when available.
Now you can’t have both of them in the middle together because Modric isn’t up to playing the defensive role and covering for Jenas who would be hiding. So it’s either play Modric out wide which is a complete waste or as the player to support the striker, the only real option. So that provides a good bridge between midfield and striker, well it would if Jenas could pass the ball to a player wearing the same coloured shirt as his and did his best to make sure he was available to receive the ball.
Then there’s the feeling that £16m was spent so Bentley has to play but his performances on the park haven’t merited his place. He used to be able to cross the ball and provide dangerous set pieces around the box, he can’t now. He’s looking like a third rate Beckham. O’Hara, who scored the cracking second, offers more right now, play him on the left, Lennon on the right.
Good points well Gomes is still a great shot stopper and he certainly stopped it being 1-1 just seconds before it became two nil, Ledley’s playing in the important games and is providing the right type of leadership…
Bale didn’t play so the win was more likely to happen, even if you’re never quite sure about Assou-Ekotto. And O’Hara’s goal, most stupid rumour about lately is Spurs chasing to bring back Robbie Keane by offering the younger left footer along with Lennon and cash, I wouldn’t put anything past Levy, but that, dear god. Well doesn’t the FA rule that is preventing Spurs going after Defoe, that a player can’t resign for a club he’s left withing a year prevent that kind of madness. And would anyone want the £20m flop back at the Lane, especially not for all that…
So ManUre at the weekend, is it a must win game, we haven’t done too badly against the so called top four this season 😉
Late P.S. I see that Juande has done not bad for himself since being kicked out of Spurs, though Madrid do have a similar record in managerial turnovers.
