Another blues legend was lost to us yesterday as news of the passing of Hubert Sumlin was announced.
Best remembered as Howlin’ Wolf’s guitarist, though he also had a brief spell with another legend of the blues Muddy Waters in 1956, between 1954 and Wolf’s death in ’76. So he was there for all the great Howlin’ Wolf tracks, “Smokestack Lightning”, “Spoonful“, “The Red Rooster“, “Evil” & “The Killing Floor“.
After Wolf’s death Hubert carried on playing the blues up until his death aged 80.
