Let him who hath understanding reckon the number of the beast for it is a human number… its number is six hundred and sixty six.
Legend has it that Iron Maiden wanted the legendary voice of Vincent Price to use for the intro to their 1982 track “The Number Of The Beast” but that Vince was a bit on the expensive side – £25,000 was a bit of loot back then. So they went with stage actor and black TV & radio pioneer Barry Clayton, who has died aged 80.
He gave it the Price treatment and one of the best intros was created. He was also the narrator of the classic Cosgrove/Hall cartoon “Count Duckula”.
