The Allman Brothers Band - Whipping Post - 9/23/1970 - Fillmore East (Official)

he was top gear.

Sad news that founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, guitarist Dickey Betts as died aged 80.

Starting alongside one of those Brothers, Duane Allman, as guitarist, Betts took over as lead guitarist following Skydog’s death in 1971 and with that became a leader and songwriter of some of their nest known tunes.

Probably in the UK the best known one is “Jessica”, after the track from the 1973 album “Brothers and Sisters” became the theme tune to BBC’s “Top Gear” TV programme. So you might think you haven’t heard of Dickey Betts but you’ve heard Dickey Betts.

So it’s a day to listen to some Allmans, some “Whipping Post” the 22 minute version from “At Fillmore East”, some “Ramblin’ Man” and many more…
