A-Rod & Sheff.
Yanks Alex Rodriguez & Gary Sheffield yesterday both were named Silver Sluggers, an award for a league’s best hitter by position. It is voted on by managers and coaches who are not allowed to vote for their own players and are given annually by Hillerich & Bradsby Co., the maker of Louisville Slugger bats.
Selections for each position were based on a combination of offensive statistics, such as batting average, on-base percentage and slugging percentage, as well as impressions of a player’s offensive value.
It’s the 8th such award for A-Rod but his first as a 3rd baseman the previous 7 were for short stop. It’s Sheff’s fourth win and the second year running.
Cliff Corcoran over at Baseball Toaster is conducting the 2005 Yankees 2005 post mortem, starting with the catchers and infielders, of course Rodriguez gets an A+
There’s also a good rundown on the side bar of the site of the Yanks that are free agents.
