Ruud van Nistelrooy.
From ManUre for Michael Carrick.
I had wondered initially if this had been a piece of Fergie inspired “business” to try and create some unsettlement in the England camp through his bitter rage at Rooney heading back to the England squad in Germany, having been passed fit.
But it looks like it’s close to a done deal with reports Spurs are resigned to losing Carrick after MU upped their offer from an initial £10m to £15m.
It does represent around a £12m profit on the player but are we going to get anywhere by selling off our best players to our competition ?
Now if we got a load of cash and a 20 goal a season striker like van Nist then I’d be quite happy. I know he fell off a bit and wasn’t chosen by Fergie in the second half of last season (and didn’t look too crash hot against S&M in the Dutch’s opening World Cup game) but with a point to prove to Fergie he could rattle in a few goals next year and it’s something Spurs really have been missing, someone to help kill off teams when on top of them.
Martin Jol has done his best to try and make Carrick stay at Spurs –
Michael knows that when he came to our club Pedro Mendes was playing in his position and Mendes is a terrific player but I made a choice for Michael. He made progress so he owes the club.” Martin Jol
I do hope in his new role as BBC Five Live pundit Martin Jol saw the USA versus Czech Republic game. The Czech defence is one of the best around all strong big fellas who are very comfortable on the ball with fullbacks that are just at home attacking as defending, with the ability to put cracking crosses over.
Exactly the other thing Spurs have been missing of late and cost us dearly last year, so Martin a quick call to your mates at Ajax to enquire about Zdenek Grygera would be good, he’s only 26 as well.
Yeah I know it was only the States they were playing who were dire but the Czechs were good strong outfit at Euro’04 and they’re not a team many would want to face in this competition, maybe they aren’t the 2nd best team in the world as they are rated by FIFA but they’re closer to that level than the USA are to their 5th place.
Just have to hope that Tomas Rosicky has shot his bolt with the two goals against the Yanks and does sod all for ARSEnal next year, another Jensen would be good.
