and his knob*
Drummer with the classic Motörhead trio line-up of the late 70s early 80s, then the second classic four piece line-up of the late 80s early 90s has died aged 61.
He was on all the classic tracks from those classic albums of the trio era, with of course Lemmy and “Fast” Eddie Clarke and – Motörhead, Overkill, Bomber, Ace Of Spades, No Sleep ’til Hammersmith – in the process creating the sound and style of thrash drumming – how many drummers gaffer taped the sticks to their hands before?
His last performance of that period coming as the then foursome played “Ace Of Spades” on the classic – there’s that word again – The Young Ones episode “Bambi”.
He returned after a three-year holiday
, the following albums included the Grammy nominated ”1916“ and then the follow up “March Or Die” during which he was sacked for not getting his act together and being able to play “I Ain’t No Nice Guy”.
* His “knob” was the lump on the back of his neck that was the result of a broken neck, after being dropped on his head.
