a belated R.I.P.
I’ve been remiss on posting some R.I.P.s here and the first is Mark Lanegan, one of the great voices of rock.
I didn’t listen to a lot of the Screaming Trees, heard bits here and there, heard the Mad Season album “Above” but even then it probably wasn’t even until Queens of the Stone Age’s “Rated R” that I really heard him. And then it was his solo album “Bubblegum” that really grabbed me.
It was the link to Queens along with his work with Master of Reality and Chris Gross that made me search, thank god I did. It’s a great album, one of the very best of the first decade of the 21st century and it made me search out his other work.
A little later, when looking at some videos of Rachel Flotard , I found he’d also worked with Maggie Björklund.
They both feature in the first video above, a tribute to the fallen of Alice in Chains, including his good fiend Layne Staley.
That nicotine and whisky soaked voice, perfect for fuzzed up melancholic, country tinged, bluesy rock.
