The transfer window… a quick bang followed by

a slow whimper.

So another transfer window of promise has ended without that promise fulfilled… it’s the hope that kills you.

Spurs went early and went well but in the end it’s Spurs and it doesn’t matter who is there to front these things, you know Levy is somewhere in the background, pulling strings.

The early deal for Perisic looked good at the time, still does, as mentioned at the time he was a player I’ve liked the look off him for sometime…

Yves Bissouma looked a great deal, good player with excellent Prem experience and a below market price paid. Forster was a freebie backup so nothing to really shout about. A loan for Lenget looked good enough, that’s if he ever gets a game.

Richarlison looks expensive, but he’s got youth and experience, a one goal in three games record in England. It’s a wait and see job, though he has brought some life and fight when brought on so far this season. Djed Spence is one for the future, as he doesn’t seem to be have a look in at the moment, though you’d think he was more suited to Conte’s way than Royale. Destiny Udogie isn’t here. Sarr is back from a loan but you don’t know what you’ll get from the 19 year old.

So most of that was done some time ago and since then there’s been nothing. Especially nothing to address the problems obvious in most of the five games they’ve played so far this season. They seemed obsessed with more and more wide players, while another defender and something creative in the midfield was required. A couple of the latter were mention, Atalanta’s Ruslan Malinovskyi and Leicester’s James Maddison, but nothing came of either. The latter would have been ideal, but only if Conte had played a central three you’d think. Plenty of PL experience, can provide an assist and goals from a central position.

But no… well… we’ll see how it pans out but it went from a transfer window that got people excited to one where they’re marking at 5/10 or lower… though on the plus side… Winks has left the country… how many games before Sampdoria decide on not taking that 25 million buy option…
