I backed a 33 to 1

Slim Pickens
Slim Pickens as Major T.J. "King" Kong at the end of Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb

shot.

Of course it wasn’t the double carpet shot that won the Grand National on Saturday, Silver Birch, it was the 33-1 outsider that came third – Slim Pickings.

And no it wasn’t picked because of the name, after all Maj. T.J. ‘King’ Kong was played by Slim Pickens 😉

Nope it was all down to careful thought and study of 40 nags that ran, the same thought and study that saw my other two picks finish ninth and be pulled up at the twenty ninth fence.

Well I had to go with Hedgehunter again, after he provided only my second winning pick for the National two years back and placed second last year.

It’s two years running I haven’t put anything on A.P. McCoy and he still hasn’t won the famous race so it can’t be my jinx, maybe it wasn’t on Scu when I backed him at Aintree all those years 😀

And did Clare Balding really mean eject when she said the course has the ability to ejaculate the rider ❓
