a Spanish horror fest from mostly 1973.

Six Spanish horror flicks, five of them from 1973, four starring the king of Spanish horror Paul Naschy.

Friday night commenced with “Horror Rises from the Tomb” (1973). Naschy playing three parts, Alaric de Marnac, Hugo de Marnac, Armand de Marnac. Plenty of gore, some sapphic action and some ropey sets.

A warlock’s severed head is unearthed centuries after his execution. Reanimated, it seeks to reunite with its body, wreaking havoc as a group encounters its sinister quest. IMDb

Friday night concluded with “Crypt of the Living Dead” aka “Hannah, Queen of the Vampires” (1973). The lovely Patty Shepard being lovely, while Mark Damon plays the bad guy again. Hannah doesn’t say much.

Two archaeologists on a scientific dig come across a vampire burial ground and discover that the creatures are about to awaken and attack a nearby village. IMDb

Saturday night commenced with Naschy again playing multiple roles in “Vengeance of the Zombies” (1973) poster. It’s always funny seeing Britain being set in Spain and looking nothing like Britain.

An Indian mystic uses magical chants to raise women from the dead, then sends them out to perform revenge killings for him. IMDb

Saturday concluded with “Assignment Terror” aka “Dracula Versus Frankenstein” (1970). Where for some reason aliens trying to invade earth bring back all the classic Universal/Hammer monsters. Dracula, Wolfman, Mummy and Frankenstein’s monster. It didn’t work, I mean four monsters versus a few billion.

An alien scientist and his team are sent to earth from their dying planet to exterminate the human population by unleashing monsters like vampires, werewolves, and mummies in order to inherit the earth. IMDb

Sunday night commenced with more Nadchy in “Count Dracula’s Great Love” (1973). His great love being heaving bosom lovelies, wandering around in flimsy nighties doing lusty vampire things.

The Transylvanian vampire searches for a virgin sacrifice to resurrect his long-dead daughter. IMDb

You can’t have too much Naschy which was lucky because…

Sunday night concluded with “Return of Walpurgis” aka “Curse of the Devil” (1973). Naschy getting all furry again as Waldemar Daninsky, setting out a new beginning to the Hombre lobo story.
