a mixture of cheap American trash amazingly shown on TV and German krimi.

Last weekend’s Fright Nights saw just two films, starting with the trashy “The Jekyll and Hyde Portfolio” (1971).

In this hybrid of slasher film and sexploitation, a mad killer is stalking the staff at a secluded nursing academy. Who will be the next victim and why does the killer carve a ‘V’ into the bodies of his beautiful female victims? IMDb

Next up was another cheapy, not quite so trashy as above, “Cathy’s Curse” (1977).

A young girl is possessed by the spirit of her aunt, who died in a car accident as a child. Soon, people around her begin to mysteriously die off. IMDb

Cathy looked very much like Keir Starmer in a lot of shots.

The week continued with a trio of German krimis. Starting off with a classic Edgar Wallace “The Phantom of Soho” (1964).

A murder mystery involving several high-profile Londoners being bumped off near a Soho nightclub by a masked killer. IMDb

This was followed up by the giallo-esque “Moonlighting Mistress” aka “Dead Sexy” (1970).

A man plans to kill his wealthy wife for her money and so he can be with his beautiful young mistress. However, things don’t turn out exactly as he had planned. IMDb

Then we were back in Edgar’s world, with “The Sinister Monk” (1965). He really did like mad monks killing folks off with a whip.

A hooded serial killer finds a novel way to murder his victims–he lashes them to death with a whip. The police try to track him down before any more murders occur. IMDb

The week finished off with another cheap American 70s trash flick with “C.B. Hustlers” (1976).

Hustlers run a mobile brothel for truckers by communicating on their CB radios. IMDb
